Election Laws Require 12 Months Residency In District
Former State Senator David Sibley lives in a 2,127 square
foot home in Austin appraised at nearly three quarters of a
million dollars for which he has been granted a homestead
exemption, according to records of the Travis County Central
Appraisal District.
A lobbyist for the Brazos River Authority who heads his own
firm, The Sibley Group, Mr. Sibley as late as Friday morning
told editors of the local daily paper he is continuing
"conversations" with supporters who are urging him to file
for election to fill the unexpired term of State Senator Kip
Averitt of Waco.
Senator Averitt's resignation will take effect on St.
Patrick's Day, March 17.
Though he is not a declared candidate for the Senatorial
post, the Waco "Tribune-Herald" gave him a glowing
endorsement today as the best man for the job.
Mr. Sibley's homestead exemption registers his principal
abode as that property in Austin for which he has been
granted homestead exemption as his principal abode and not
in any of the 10 counties that make up State Senatorial
District 22.
Situated on 0.212 acres, its assessed value is listed as
$616,386 with a market value appraised at $711,491.
To be a candidate for either chamber of the Texas
Legislature, one must have resided in the district for which
one is seeking election for the previous 12 months.
As of March 1, 2010, the listed property in Austin is his
homestead.
Mr. Sibley was in consultation with his advisers and
unavailable for comment at the time of this posting.
