Defense Bill – DREAM Act, Don't Ask, Don't Tell Blocked
Senate Democrats fell substantially short of the 60 votes needed for cloture to send the FY 2011 Defense Authorization Act to the floor for debate and an up or down vote.
The measure included in seperate rider bills an automatic extension of citizenship to resident alien enlistees in the Armed Forces and end to the “don't ask; don't tell” policy against gays and lesbians serving in the military.
In reaction, Senator Bob Menendez, (D-NJ), called the fact that not one Republican Senator voted to send the bill to the full Senate for debate “shameful.”
It is Bob Menendez who is shameful. Where in the world does he and the other Democratic Senators think the main numbers of fighters come from? Middle America. Where does he think gays gravitate to? Spots such as Military Intelligence, JAG, etc. Does any one of those guys know that removing the policy will fracture unit morale? It is difficult enough to maintain military discipline without barrack affairs going on. Hell, one unit is in trouble because their female liutenant is on video doing the dirty with five of her troops. Look, when we joined we understood that we were under the UCMJ and gave up some rights. So why are morons in the Senate whining about restoring rights to them? The Democratic Senators fool themselves if they are for repeal of DADT to get fighters. The only ones enlisting will be for soft spots like MI and the like in order to get access to fresh meat. The fighters will stay out of the service period. There. I've said it and not ashamed of it. And I have lots of ex-drill instructors and first sergeants to back me up.
