Anatomy Of An Islamic Revolution: Crisis Point, Noon, Friday
Anti-regime revolutionists attend noon prayers in Liberation Square on the 8th day
Cairo – The world is about to witness an energy paradigm shift.
At high noon, the mullahs began to call the faithful to prayer in Tahrir Square, nee Liberation Square, renamed from Liberty Square since yesterday.
The holy day of the Islamic week, it is also the day reserved for public religious executions, beheadings, the slicing off of thieves' hands, the noses of aldulterous women, the delivery of lashes for offenses against the faith such as homosexuality and the failure to attend prayers, and the list goes on.
Today, a day that will be recorded in history as "The Day of Departure," hundreds of thousands more anti-regime protesters are entering the square as military soldiers check their identification and the Defense Minister personally inspects the scene.
President Hosni Mubarak, who said yesterday he is “fed up” and wishes to resign immediately, is standing by to “prevent chaos.”
It is a laughable statement, according to opposition spokesmen from the Muslim Brotherhood. Chaos already reigns in the streets of the nation's major cities, nowhere more than this ancient capitol of the Pharaohs, Abdul Gamal Nasser, Anwar Sadat, and now Mr. Mubarak.
Too late, they say. If Mr. Mubarak would leave the country immediately, it might just alleviate some of the chaos.
The world awaits the verdict of millions of people who have poured into the streets to see what will happen next, perhaps to help make history in driving yet another client/dictator of the United States from their native soil, as other nations have done over the past 30 years, starting in Iran.
The balance of power in a western world hungry for mideastern oil and natural gas hangs in the balance. Though the U.S. uses far more petroleum products imported from Canada and Venezuela than it does from the Arabian Peninsula and north Africa, supertankers deliver the bulk of European imports from that region, bolstered by offshore production from the North Sea and Russia.
Immediately the prayers to Allah were completed, the millions of people rose to their feet and began to chant for the ouster of President Mubarak in deafening tones, spectacular to behold.
