Libyan air force jets mount sorties against rebels in eastern Libyan oil fields. The freedom fighters are hard-pressed to defend themselves with antiquated anti-aircraft guns and small arms fire. There is increasing pressure in the U.S. and U.K. to impose a no-fly zone over the north African dictatorship, which has cut off all oil exports to such southern European nations as Spain and Italy, and sent gasoline and diesel prices soaring by a half-dollar a gallon.
