Thousands have responded – many have volunteered
Waco – Conventional wisdom has always held that a man can't be elected Sheriff of a Texas County unless he will get out on the streets surrounding the Square and ask folks to vote for him.
By following that tradition, Parnell McNamara is clocking tremendous benefits at this stage of the campaign.
Early indications show that a 30-second television spot run by the Parnell McNamara for Sheriff campaign this past weekend during Baylor's appearance in the Alamodome is paying off big time.
According to Campaign Treasurer David Dickson, Marshal McNamara's daughter Amanda has fielded 2,300 Facebook inquiries, most of them very congratulatory. Many of those who saw the spot have already volunteered to put out yard signs, make phone calls and other campaign chores that are so important in a county-wide election.
The message in the Marshal's political advertisement is nothing more fancy that what any old-time lawman running for Sheriff would have told a potential constituent, friend or neighbor on the Courthouse Square in much earlier times.
Mr. McNamara merely introduces himself on-camera and asks for the viewers' votes, having prefaced his request by mentioning that he and his family have been involved in law enforcement for as many generations as they have lived in Central Texas.
According to Mr. Dickson, “A lot of them have told us, 'I didn't know you were running. I thought (Chief Deputy Randy) Plemons was the only candidate in the primary.'”
So the decision was made to spend some of the campaign's war chest on a spot that would for sure be seen by friends and fellow Baylor grads throughout McLennan County during the televised Alamodome game.
