Clifton – There's the “Hotel California,” the ballad of Pancho and Lefty, Mr. Bojangles, and all the rest of the Texas outlaw stuff.
Tonight, it's “It Won't Hurt,” penned by Ray Wylie Hubbard in his salad days, and Bob Seger's haunting ballad written for Duane Allman, “Turn the Page.”
A trio of home-grown talent, Steve Anderson, Dustin Durham and Dennis Phillips join the choruses on six and 12-string acoustic, making the familiar tunes ring out.
Crowds ease in and out as the Cliftex Theatre opens, then lets out, and folks sip espresso and capuccino, smoothies and shakes as they listen in the dim atmosphere of the Victorian-era building corner suite at Avenue D and Hwy 219, once a depression-era drugstore, now home to the noon-time eatery a barbershop, and a hotel recently re-developed and completely refurbished for festivals and gatherings.
