Adios, Ms. Phyllis, we will definitely miss you - and Fang
Why let the facts get in the way of a good story? The story: This lady was down and out in North Beach in the late fifties while her old man, a beat she named Fang, hung out all day in gin mills, having at the hair of the dog, etc. She got to telling the other chicks jokes while she did the family laundry in a coin-operated joint, and she cracked them up. Someone told Enrico Banducci, proprietor of The Hungry i, The Purple Onion, Enrico's, and other spots, and he caught her "act" at the washateria. The rest is history. Late night TV, specials, movies, the works, followed by a very lucrative career as a writer for some very big shots in a cut throat business - comedy. Fang? Who knows? She kept on talking about him in her act. Whew! They got some ding-a-lings out there, kids. What I mean. - The Legendary
