Defense attorneys and prosecutors will plead with a federal judge today at 2 p.m. to accept a guilty plea from suspected killer Jared Loughner. Mr. Loughner opened fire in a Tucson supermarket parking lot in 2010, disabling Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords for life and killing a U.S. District Judge, among others.
Both sets of attorneys have filed pleadings with the Court maintaining that Mr. Loughner is competent to enter his plea, and he is fully aware of the consequences of his actions.
Ms. Giffords' Congressional District had been marked with a cross-hairs in websites sponsored by such Tea Party luminaries as Sarah Palin. She later resigned from her House of Representatives seat when she learned she would not be able to handle her duties as a Congresswoman.
During her lengthy recovery, while she lay in a coma, her husband, a Space Shutlle Astronaut, held her hand and continually talked to her to let her know he was with her and wanted her to recover, admonishing her to awaken.
