October 15th: Occupy Banks from Mary Matthews on Vimeo.
Times Square bank sit-ins Saturday at 5 p.m.New York – The confrontation is set, the battle is in full swing, 7 a.m. this morning, the hour of attack.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the private corporation that owns “Liberty Square,” also known as Zucotti Park, will evict Occupy Wall Street protesters at 7 a.m. Today.
Plans call for a clean-up to battle “unsanitary conditions.”
In announcing the cleaning of the park with pressure washers, the Mayor and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly told occupiers they will not be allowed to bring any personal gear such as sleeping bags or tarps back into the park.
The reaction from OWS is predictable.
“This is it – this is their attempt to shut down #OWS for good,” said a news website devoted to the movement. “Come to #OWS tonight at midnight to defend the occupation from eviction.”
There is a 5 p.m. occupation of the banks situated on Times Square on Saturday afternoon. A video displayed on the website says “They've taken our homes...”
“For those of you who plan to help us hold our ground—which we hope will be all of you—make sure you understand the possible consequences. Be prepared to not get much sleep. Be prepared for possible arrest. Make sure your items are together and ready to go (or already out of the park.) We are pursuing all possible strategies; this is a message of solidarity.”
There are instructions attached on how to resist arrest through passive means and “basic blockading.”
The bottom line: “We won't allow Bloomberg and the NYPD to foreclose our occupation. This is an occupation, not a permitted picnic.”
