Amnesty offer - Syrian President “delusional, helpless”

Damascus – Experts quoted in “The Jerusalem Post” say that Bashar Assad's offer of amnesty for protesters and others who have committed illegal acts only show he is delusional.

In a lengthy and rambling speech, the president referred to protesters as gangsters and lawbreakers, but vowed for the second time in three weeks to give them amnesty.

Though hundreds have been released from jails, thousands still languish in lockups throughout the nation following a three-month stretch of violence that has left thousands of persons dead as troops fire live rounds to disperse crowds.
