Washington – A CBS News poll shows 85% of Americans believe compromises on spending reduction and tax increases are necessary to break a logjam over debt ceiling negotiations.
Of these, 67% blame Republican politicians for the impasse, while 57% blame Democrats. Only 11% say Republicans should stick to their demands for no new taxes in talks to increase the nation's $14 trillion-plus debt ceiling and stave off a default on U.S. Treasury bonds.
