Amid devastation, ATF stonewalls, plods on

Scene of the blast

West – Newsmen and insurance adjusters cruised the scenes of devastation in this city wracked by a fertilizer explosion two weeks ago.


Police officers make sure no one steps off the street and onto private property without a valid reason, and neighborhood watchers hawk a stranger's every move.



ATF investigators stonewall all questions, holed up at the High School behind closed doors and a phalanx of security guards...No one can answer any questions, and the survivors busy themselves trying to get organized for another day.


Residents of a rest home and an apartment complex bore the brunt of some of the worst of blast, sustaining injuries that left them homeless, frightened and helpless...
