McLennan County contracts with local contractors

By R. S. Gates

In the election cycle of 2010, newcomer Ben Perry defeated long-term Commissioner Ray Meadows. He repeatedly said that he would not continue business as usual, that he would strive to use more local contractors. The new Commissioner quickly found out “The way we’ve always done things” really meant rubberstamping existing contracts to avoid going out for bids. When Mr. Perry took a stand, taxpayers realized a significant savings from a Dallas Company that had the janitorial contract.

On Tuesday, Dec. 6, three contracts come before the the Court for consideration. The first is a water service contract held by a company form Temple.

Next up, we have the Pest Control Company annual contract.

This contract is worth about the same amount as the previous one.

Number three is where a Dallas company bought out a local contractor who has an existing contract with the county.
