Names of informants and anonymous whistleblowers in “Operation Gunwalker” case are subject of info request
David Codrea invited his readers to file federal Freedom of Information Act requests with the Bureau Of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) after filing his own request to discover the names of whistleblowers.
He is looking for information on who turned to Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA) for an investigation into allegations that federal gun agents had assault weapons “walked” across the border to “pad” the record of American guns that turn up in the hands of cartel drug smugglers and “sicarios” who kill for a living.
In alleging that more than 3,000 weapons are involved, anonymous sources have alleged that two of them that were at one time under ATF control were recovered from cartel assassins after Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was killed in a firefight with bandits near the border town of Nogales, Arizona, in mid-December, 2010.
He and other agents were staking out a canyon where predators are known to target illegal immigrants and strip them of their money and valuables as they enter the U.S. illegally.
In his request, Mr. Codrea, who also writes for “National Examniner.com” on the subject of gun ownership freedom and ATF enforcement issues, called for a release of information regarding a briefing of the Senator and his staff, to “include any memorandum, report, summary or other communication that describes what happened at the meeting, including a description of any oral briefing and what was said by both sides, and include copies of any such documents, filed or stored, or designated for filing and storage, at the Office of Public and Government Affairs.”
Mr. Codrea wrote, “It will no doubt be noticed that this FOIA request is by no means comprehensive in terms of addressing a host of other issues brought up in the 'Project Gunwalker' investigation. This is but another piece, intendedd to build on a steady record of corroboration for allegations. Interested readers should submit their own FOIA arequest, either supplementing this one or requesting other relevant information that will help unravel things.”
