“Runner's World” tells Paul Ryan: “not so fast”

In 1990 U.S. Representative Paul Ryan completed a grueling 26.2-mile marathon race in a perfectly respectable time of just over 4 hours.

He didn't remember it that way in a nationally broadcast interview.

Ryan told listeners he made the course in “2 hours fifty-something.” That's when editorial staffers at the popular running enthusiasts' publication “Runner's World” hit the record books. They corrected the vice presidential hopeful. The Representative's official time was just over 4 hours.

The experts said completion of a marathon course of 26.2 miles in "two hours fifty-something" for an average time of about 7 minutes per mile would be extremely fast for a "recreational runner" such as Mr. Ryan.

In a statement released on Saturday, the candidate said he should have rounded his time to 4 hours, not less than three.
