Most Republican Senators refuse to approve House version of bill
Congress approved an additional $40 billion to send more troops to Afghanistan, but now Democratic and Republican Senators alike refuse to authorize the funding.
A former pilot in Vietnam, Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA), said the Afghan struggle smells like and tastes like Vietnam. Some knowledgeable observers say Republicans are suffering from “Afghanistan fatigue.”
Tom Harkin is a Vietnam era pilot, not one who served in Vietnam. He was caught embellishing his service and was called out on it and apologized. However,like other lies, once put out, it is hard to put back in the bottle. I am not sure if he was outed before the book "Stolen Valor" was published originally, but I believe his story is in one of the later editions.
