McLennan County Court Released Violent Sex Offender On Drug Charge
Have you seen this man?
If you have, you were looking at one of the 10 most wanted sex offenders in Texas, according to a wanted poster circulated by the Department of Public Safety.
Prosecutors and a judge were surprised when the accused drug offender absconded on a bond in March.
Now they're even more surprised to learn that he is one of the Texas DPS 10 most wanted sex offenders.
Leonard Eugene Wilson,26, has a string of convictions for sex offenses, including indecency with a child involving sexual contact, aggravated sexual assault and indecent exposure. The victims are all female juveniles, aged 13, 14 and 16. His criminal record for sex offenses dates back to 1999, the latest having occurred in 2007.
Police arrested Wilson for aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury in 2004, but a prosecutor recommended the charge should be dropped because he was defending a third party from assault at the time, making “a successful prosecution unlikely,” according to court records.
In his latest arrest for possession of less than two ounces of marijuana, he was released on $250 bond and did not return to court in March of this year.
Knowledgeable court observers remarked that $250 is a very low bond for an offender of his type and experience.
He is still at large.
