"No Drama, No Trauma" Policy For Illegal Workers

Hundreds of thousands lose jobs at 2,900 companies targeted

A new trend in immigration enforcement points to what many
experts suspect will be an offer of amnesty to illegal
workers already in the country.

Immigration (ICE) agents poring over employment records at
2,900 companies have exposed thousands of illegal workers in
"silent raids."

The companies fire the workers when it is discovered that
the "I-9" forms they filled out when newly hired do not jibe
with federal Social Security and immigration form numbers.

Instead of hundreds of agents going after one company, one
agent can go after hundreds of companies.

But the government does not deport the workers who lose
their jobs for falsifying their employment applications.

The employers just fire them.

There is "no drama, no trauma, no families torn apart and no
handcuffs," according to one consultant in the field of
immigration law.

During the first 18 months of the Obama Administration,
policy has changed nationwide, causing some employers termed
the most "egregious" to forfeit hefty amounts in fines -
often as much as $750,000 for knowingly hiring and employing
illegal workers.

In a speech last week, the President promised tougher
enforcement, both in the plants and fields, and at the
border.

Advocates of immigration say he's doing it - in spades.
