Tea Party Express Kicked Out of National Federation

Racist letter on blog prompted ouster of bus tour group

The 85-member National Federation of Tea Parties ousted Tea Party Express because of racist remarks made by spokesman Mark Williams.

In his blog, the California radio talk show host who MC's the touring groups' presentations referred to NAACP President Benjamin as Uncle Tom's nephew and published a mock letter from slaves to President Abraham Lincoln that said they don't “cotton” to emancipation because of their objections to working for a living and having to think for themselves.

He wrote his blog entries in reaction to the NAACP's resolution condemning tolerance for racist behavior in the Tea Parties after alleged attacks on black Congressmen at a Capitol rally in which members spat on them and shouted racial epithets.

Mr. Williams told media outlets that his comparison of NAACP officials to “slave traders” was actually quite successful because it opened up lines of communication between the Tea Parties and top officials of the organization.

Tea Party Express has toured the nation recently, hosting local rap artist “Politic,” the stage name for David Saucedo of Waco.

They are credited with helping several Tea Party candidates defeat incumbents in primary elections.
