Cornyn Reverses GOP Decision – Sends O'Donnell Check

Senator John Cornyn, R-TX, reversed an earlier pronouncement by the Republican National Senatorial Committee and sent Christine O'Donnell a check for the maximum amount the committee is allowed to donate - $42,000.

Senator Cornyn is chairman of the committee.

“Let there be no mistake. The NRSC – and I personally as the committee’s chairman – strongly stand by all of our Rep. nominees, including O’Donnell in Delaware.

“I offered her my personal congratulations and let her know that she has our support, which includes a check for $42k–the max. The NRSC is sending a check today,” said Sen. Cornyn, according to Johnson County Tea Party Chairman Angela Cox.
The committee issued a press release later in the day.

The Tea Party-backed Republican nominee bested U.S. Representative Mike Castle, Delaware's lone Congressman, and captured the GOP nomination last night.

Senatorial Committee luminaries had earlier said Tea Party candidates would have to go their own route in getting elected over Democratic incumbents.

The GOP needs to pick up 10 seats to take back its advantage in the upper chamber.

Local Tea Party members speculated as to how many irate phone calls and Facebook comments it took to persuade the National committee chairman to change his mind.
