Harry Reid Puts Amnesty Measure In Defense Bill

DREAM Act would bestow automatic citizenship on enlistees, students

Non-citizens who enlist in the Armed Forces or enroll in studies would automatically be bestowed U.S. Citizenship under the terms of a rider bill inserted in the Defense funding authorization act by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-NV.

The Development Relief and Education of Alien Minors (DREAM) Act will “ensure that millions of children who grow up as Ameircans will be able to get the education they need to contribute to our economy,” said Senator Reid.

Obama Administration officials, including the President, support the proposed legislation.

First proposed in 2001, the proposal has enjoyed the bipartisan support of both Democrats and liberal Republicans.

Though unrelated to defense spending, it's a routine ploy used by Democrats to insert unpopular liberal legislation in the Senate's hopper.

Said Sen. John Thune, R-SD, “It's totally unrelated to the defense authorization bill. Last year they dumped hate crimes into this. The defense bill should be about taking care of our military.”
